VIRGINIA
Elizabeth Dock free, between Bridge and north lock on Dismal Swamp Canal.  Holds about 5 boats, porta-potty, park, town, nature walk, walk to restaurants and market.

Atlantic Yacht Basin (12 miles from Norfolk) May 19, 2014 wifi works, near services to restock the frig

North Street Basin and High Street Basin, Portsmouth, VA free August 2, 2014 on our way north. Great spot downtown, tie up on the wall, nearby good restaurants. FREE, close to historic Commodore Movie theatre - huge screen sit at tables, serves dinner and snacks, beer and wine

Hampton Pier, VA city marina with a couple of free anchorages, slips, near dog park and great restaurants - Venture is the best, hotel with gym access, tour boats, walking distance to Air and Space Museum with Imax theatre.

Tidewater Marina, VA in Portsmouth, VA $2/' nice facilities, pool, restaurant right in the marina, walking distance to historic homes and excellent restaurants like Cafe Europa on High St.  Sometimes can anchor for free on High Street basin or North Basin.  Portsmouth side of the river.  There's a ferry that takes people over to the shops and restaurants at Waterside, Norfolk side.

Top Rack Marina - get free anchorage with meal at the restaurant (~$75) - we haven't stayed here but many say the meal is excellent!

Zimmerman Marina, Cardinal, VA near Mathews, VA:  this is a place only for boat work not an overnight spot to stay.  I guess you could squeeze in and anchor in the bay.  There is a very, very narrow channel in and out to bring the boat dockside to be hauled out.  It is one of the few places that has a great deal of equipment to do a great job: inside painting shed with protection, many large indoor facilities for all sizes of boats (as long as you can get in the little well protected channel)  In the middle of no where so without a car you cannot get any provisions.  Clean facility with shower and kitchen facility.  Only for boat work.  Don't confuse this with the Zimmerman's in Deltaville.

Yorktown National Park wonderful tour, a couple good restaurants, nice history lesson and importance of Lafayette and the French Navy.
