So the work continues at Whiticar, Fort Pierce, FL

Still from afar Drew oversees the work on Shawnee.  Whiticar sends us iphone camera pictures to follow the problems and fixes.

Wear on the hose as seen from the emptied cockpit locker

Rusted clamp as seen with a phone camera in the cockpit locker.
These hoses lead to the outside of the boat and underwater as we sail.  I don't think we've ever inspected them.

While the boat is out of the water Whiticar Boat Yard inspected the scupper hoses and thru hulls on the transom.  They inspected the other thru hulls for the bilge pumps too.  On some Island Packets, the plastic thru hulls get aged and cracked.  Some have also had problems with aging/cracked scupper hoses.   If it’s a problem, it’s easier to fix while she is hauled out.  This is an area that is below sea level as we sail.  We’ll have the rusted clamp replaced with stainless and hoses that are worn replaced as well.

I don't think we have a problem, but it would be good if they can check and let us know what they find.  To check the inside, Whiticar will empty the cockpit lockers – not fun.  Of course we will restock the lockers with all the stuff.

Heading back to FL on Saturday and cannot wait to see how the varnish on the floors came out.

For Mazu fans.  Mazu decided to climb into granddaughter's car seat since it was empty after we dropped Isabelle at daycare.  Pretty comfortable.  Newborn Grandson, Oliver was on the other side of the car.

Keeping Shawnee maintained and updated

Happy New Year.

From afar Drew has overseen the work on Shawnee:
·    bottom painted, cleaned and waxed
·    boot stripe painted
·    Prop Speed applied to propeller, new zincs
·    new line for in haul and out haul on the main
·    teak toe rail touch up with Bristol Finish

It’s always a bit of a challenge to get a yard to use Bristol, but for us it lasts so much longer than varnish with a harder finish that resists dog nail scratching.

With easy picture sending and text we can see the in-process and final work Whiticar Boat Works is doing in Fort Pierce.  After a sort of slow start with their lift breaking in early December they had to wait before they could take the boat out to do the work.

Boot stripe and bottom before and prep.

 finished:
 Prop after:  nice and clean

Prop before.  It really isn't that bad - the Prop Speed really works well to protect from barnacles and crud.

We’ll report back on the results when we get to Florida at the end of the month. I look at a yard’s ability to get work done on time, in budget, and all works well.

They were unable to get the sails to the shop in time to get them sewn after we took them all off.  Maybe we’ll sew them ourselves with a needle and thread – old school.

We are still in Bangor helping with new grandson, Oliver Yaolin Chng, and two year old, Isabelle -- a fun grandparent duty.

Looking forward to getting back to the warm, although we love our time with our daughter, Sarah, and son-in-law, Yeang.
